The youngster who originates from the same region as the great Dougie Lampkin has finished in sixth place on no less than five occasions during his thirty-nine appearances at the top level. Two of these came during his campaign last season, one on the second day in America and the other at the Italian Grand Prix. A switch from the Future Montesa team to the Gas Gas squad over the winter, saw Dabill emerge as a strong rider with him twice defeating Lampkin during the first two rounds of the British championship.

 

With these two confidence building results under his belt, Dabill arrived in Ireland looking for two top five finishes to open his new World account. However, despite some flashes of brilliance the talented rider from Yorkshire left Newcastle with a pair of seventh positions, after Lampkin twice turned the tables on his younger compatriot. James knows he must both outsmart Dougie and his Beta team mate Jeroni Fajardo in Portugal if he is to grab his first ever top five placing amongst the World Pro riders.

 

Dabill explained. “I am really pleased how I have adapted to the two stroke Gas Gas after a couple of years on a four stroke. I think the bike suits my riding style much better, and has provided me with added confidence. Beating Dougie at the first two British rounds was a real boost, it is just a shame that I could not have maintained that same form in Ireland. “

 

“Two seventh places was by no means a disaster, I just have high expectations as I know what I am capable of when it all comes together. With the support of my minder Jack Lee and the added help from the Gas Gas UK importer John Shirt, I really feel that I can break into the top five sooner rather than later. I am not too sure what type of trial to expect in Portugal, but I will be going all out for a top five placing.” James ended.
