Thousands enjoyed the spectacular Trial Grand Prix of Great Britain

The impressive location in the quarry at Nord Vue offered an intimate setting, which meant that spectators were able to appreciate at close quarters the skill, balance, effort and sheer courage of the riders as they braved the challenging obstacles in their path. Massive sandstone boulders and sheer rock faces caked in mud provided eventful settings for the best in the World to showcase their abilities, but even they proved human with some spectacular tumbles and rare mistakes to thrill the crowd.

Local rider Jonny Walker achieved seventh position on both Saturday and Sunday, giving him a highly creditable seventh place in the current overall Youth Championship standings. The weekend, however, belonged to the defending World Champion, Spain’s Toni Bou, who stood at the top of the podium on both days despite crashing into a rock face on Sunday after his bike suddenly lost power from a technical fault. He is now nine points clear at the top of the World Championship standings as the competition moves to Japan in three weeks time.

Gary Bingley, event co-ordinator, was delighted with the success of the event: “It looked as if the British weather was going to put a dampener on the competition, but apart from the occasional shower, it proved to be as exciting, testing and entertaining as we had hoped. Thanks must go to Lowther Estates for providing such a perfect location, Lloyd Motor Group for their title sponsorship and all the spectators who came to support us. Let’s hope we can host this event here again in the future.”
