Toni Bou was in a class of his own with an outstanding victory on the first day of the Japanese Grand Prix. Fifteen marks ahead of his Repsol Montesa HRC team-mate Takahisa Fujinami, Bou's form put him ahead of rival Adam Raga who took the third podium place.
Overnight heavy rain made some of the sections particularly severe with greasy rocks and steep slippery climbs for the riders to overcome, however, in dropping only 6 marks over the two laps, Toni Bou was in supreme form with his victory never in doubt. A consistent performance from Fujinami gave him a worthy runner-up position, whilst Raga had to improve in the afternoon in order to take third place from Dougie Lampkin.
The Junior Class saw a British 1-2, with Beta's Alexz Wigg and Jack Challoner coming first and second respectively, with Matteo Grattarola - Sherco taking third spot. With his fifth win of this year's Championship Alexz Wigg is now eighteen points clear of his nearest challenger Alfredo Gomez – Montesa, who took fourth position.
The Youth Class saw Jonathan Richardson – Sherco achieving his fourth win of the season despite it being his first time in the Japanese event and cementing his lead in the category by thirty points. Tanguy Mottin – Gas Gas was second, with Luca Cotone – Beta coming third as his best ever finish.
